Fishbowl Roadies

The Perfect Fish Match For Some of the Most Iconic Rock Bands

Rock and Roll and a fish may seem like an odd pairing, but they entered mainstream America at about the same time. Between the 1950s and 1970s, two quintessential things in any kid’s room were a record player and a fishbowl.

Kids worldwide listened to their favorite songs while feeding their fish in their room, wondering about life and music on the road. And maybe the fish were wondering the same.

So which fish might tag along as roadies during the era of Rock and Roll when bands traveled by buses with a talented crew dedicated to making every show the very best?

The freshwater fish available at Aquatic Arts have striking colorations and patterns and entertaining traits that would have made them excellent candidates for fishbowl roadies for the rock bands of the late 1960s to the early ‘70s.

Pink Floyd: The Rainbow Platy

In Pink Floyds’s song “Wish You Were Here,” a verse mentions “two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl,” which is why they are at the top of the list. Since the band released its album “Dark Side of the Moon,” the group has been associated with rainbows due to the album’s artwork. So it seems befitting to name the Rainbow Platy their fishbowl roadie.

Yes: The Albino Tiger Oscar

Chris Squire, bass player for Yes, was dubbed “The Fish” by his bandmates because he would take long baths. He was also a Pisces. The Albino Tiger Oscar is an excellent choice for their Roadie.

Jimi Hendrix Experience: The Albino Cardinal Tetra

Jimi Hendrix and his bandmates wore very vibrant outfits during performances. Well, really, anytime. It was the ‘60s, after all. Hendrix also did more than play wicked licks on his Strat. He also painted psychedelic impressions. His artistic side is well-represented by the Albino Cardinal Tetra.

Allman Brothers Band: The Gold Severum

The Gold Severum, with its peach-colored highlights, makes a great tribute to the Allman Brothers Band’s album “Eat a Peach.”

Rolling Stones: The Doctor Fish

The Doctor Fish spends most of its time at the bottom of the tank, and with its gray coloration, it easily blends in with rocks. So it is the prime candidate for a Rolling Stones roadie.

Cream: The Albino Aeneus Cory Catfish

The Albino Aeneus Cory Catfish is the right fish for Cream’s roadie job. It has an almost cream-like coloring to its body. Plus, Eric Clapton recorded “Catfish Blues,” a traditional blues song.

Led Zeppelin: The Longfin Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco

There are various stories about how Led Zeppelin got their name, but no matter why they chose the rigid airship — it stuck. The perfect fish for them is the Longfin Blue Eye Lemon Bristlenose Pleco, whose body has a zeppelin-like shape. Additionally, the band has a song called “The Lemon Song.”

Jefferson Airplane: The Pingu Guppy

Jefferson Airplane was all about tie-dye and psychedelic rock. The Pingu Guppy has a trippy tie-dye look and is a great option as their fishbowl roadie.

Deep Purple: The Milky Way Wood Catfish

The Milky Way Wood Catfish has a deep purple stripe along its body that perfectly represents Deep Purple. Just make sure that there’s no smoke on the water.

Black Sabbath: The German Black Ram Dwarf Cichlid

The main requirements for a Black Sabbath Roadie are that it’s black, looks cool, and has bright blue accents. Clearly, this job calls for the German Black Ram Dwarf Cichlid. The grim reaper would be proud of this pairing.
